“Worn Stories” Netflix Review by Brooke Daugherty

Worn Stories beautifully explores the clothes we love enough to keep. Everyone has that one piece they can’t get rid of no matte. Mine is a pink airbrushed t-shirt. Based on a book written by Emily Spivack, Worn Stories dives into stories about people’s favorite articles of clothing.
People from all walks of life share their stories about their favorite articles of clothing. From an astronaut to an escort, to the author herself, show off their items and tell their stories. One story heartbreakingly tells the story of a mother losing her son. Another tells of a shirt that went to outer space. Even style master Simon Doonan shows off his club kid shorts.
Many of the tales are rooted in some sort of personal expiration or revelation. So many people can relate to stories told by the owners — even those who don’t like to wear clothes. Several people at a nudist camp are interviewed about what clothes they can’t live without, if any.
Here’s my story: My mom got herself that pink airbrushed t-shirt in Florida the fall of 1987. I found it in her closet while in high school and never gave it back. Something about the goofiness of a pastel 10 year old t-shirt painted with a beach and a name that is not mine appealed to me. I got divorced several years ago and thought I lost it. Recently, I found it with some other beloved items after watching Worn Stories which couldn’t have been more perfect.
If you have Netflix, give this series a watch. You can binge or use this show as a palate cleanser for something heavy or life in general.
