“The White Tiger” Movie Review by Quinton Roberts

Based on the New York Times bestseller, The White Tiger is a movie about a young Indian driver who believes he is destined for greatness. He goes from being a nobody in a small village to being a master himself. With this film, you are getting the rise of a young man into an almost villain of sorts. The film does a good job of introducing the main characters and where they go from the beginning to the end. The problem with this film is there doesn’t seem to be a character to really gravitate towards, and that’s detrimental to the story.
Balram Halwai (Adarsh Gourav) is our main focus through the whole movie and his story is told with him narrating it. When watching his struggles, I felt bad for him but I couldn’t empathize with him because of the dialogue. It was very clunky and made it hard to enjoy aspects of the film, especially the emotion. I wouldn’t recommend watching this film because the characters seem paper thin and unlikable. This is reminiscent of another film that definitely did the aspect of the Indian culture much better, Slumdog Millionaire. I will not be revisiting this film.
PCL Rating: Low Taste It
