“The Rental” Movie Review by Quinton Roberts

Dave Franco has made a name for himself in Hollywood, as an actor and a writer, but now he seems to be stepping in the role as director. For his first film, it is interesting he decides to go with a horror/ thriller film because these types of films always seem to be criticized much heavier than other genres. The horror film genre has evolved into something more than just jump scares and nudity. There are actual story plots in this film that make it better than the cheesier horror films that have come before. Is it good though? I would say yes in every way.
We have four main characters that we follow in this film and already there is a love triangle that forms which adds a drama aspect to the film that isn’t all too present in horror films. It seems that this film follows a drama plot line for most of the film, and then out of nowhere the horror genre comes out in full force. The last twenty minutes can make or break this film from being a cult classic or a complete miss. For me, it was an added element that made the movie exciting and different. The music alone is something magical with its way of completely engrossing the viewer in each scene. This was a fun film to watch.
PCL Rating: High Taste It
