“Promising Young Woman” Movie Review by Quinton Roberts

Carey Mulligan stars in this sexy thriller about a woman who seeks revenge on those who created a traumatic past for her and her friend. The story evolves from a seemingly vengeful woman whose only means is to punish men for essentially participating in sexual acts with a heavily intoxicated lady to a love story with a surprisingly humorous Bo Burnam.
The movie takes its time to flesh out each character in this film to the point where when it ends, you’re sitting with your mouth wide open in shock. The director, Emerald Fennell, has done other films mostly in the Victorian age and seeing her contemporary spin on the way woman are viewed in a society of sexual hungry men is tastefully done.
Mulligan really shines in this film and is able to turn on any emotion needed throughout this story and does so in such a sly manner that it is amazing she hasn’t been given a role like this before. Watching this film was a treat and is a must see by everyone. Because of the state of where films are going in the theater sense, this could easily slip from many people but it shouldn’t. Go see Promising Young Woman in the theater while you still can!
