Teams compete to create holiday themed displays out of cake and sugar.

The Food Network never disappoints when it comes to holiday competition programming and 2020 is no different with their latest season of “Holiday Wars”, the forgotten sibling of the wildly popular “Halloween Wars”. “Holiday Wars” follows the reliable formula of watching multiple teams of expert bakers as they compete in themed rounds. They bake elaborate sculptures, cakes and edible treats as the field is slowly narrowed down to one team who is the ultimate winner of “Holiday Wars”.

Host Raven Symone brings the authentic comedic commentary needed to balance the sometimes stiff and dry judges. Unfortunately, audiences who are new to this Food Network franchise will need to look past the obviously scripted banter and conflict between teammates. It’s not enough to take the audience out of the fun but it is corny and about as believable as some of the “mishaps” that also occur as these elaborate dessert sculptures fall or break in the final moments of the tense competition.

Contestant Emerlie Miller, as seen on Holiday Wars, Season 2.

Similar to its Fall counterpart, “Holiday Wars” brings teams together to create joyful holiday masterpieces under intense pressure in an incredibly limited amount of time (like really limited). Audiences will find themselves rooting for their favorite team and disappointed when they get cut from the competition. It won’t leave a lasting impression this holiday season and that’s ok. It’s a fun show for the entire family to enjoy.

PCL Rating: Taste It

Rotten Tomatoes Rating: FRESH
