DEADPOOL VS. X-FORCE
The merc with the mouth is at it again in this classic time travel adventure with a Deadpool twist. *Spoilers*
Once again, Deadpool is on an irrational mission where both bloody combat and hilarity follow close behind. The story begins with Deadpool shooting his way through the American revolution wielding machine guns and clever quips; murdering only the people his book of names allows.
In another time, the telekinetic mutant known as Cable feels a disturbance in the time stream. Recently arriving in our time he is cursed with visions, but unlike most of his visions, this one manifests suddenly and violently. Immediately Cable knows who he must visit. Francis Talbot, a man who has made billions from the American Military-Industrial Complex and obsessed with time travel (who will eventually be the inventor of the machine that sends Cable to our time) has sent Deadpool to the past to alter the time stream and prevent his grandson from dying in war. However, Deadpool proceeds to push Talbot down and alter the time coordinates and travel back over two centuries.
Cable puts together a team of the strongest mutants he knows (who will later be known as The X-FORCE) this team consists of Warpath, Boom Boom, Domino and Cannonball.
With help from Talbot, the team is sent back in time to deal with Deadpool. They track down and attack Deadpool but are surprised by his resourcefulness. Deadpool slips away but leaves behind his hit list.
Knowing where Deadpool is going next, Boom Boom and Cannonball are left behind to contain the damage while Cable Domino and Warpath head Gettysburg 1863. Unfortunately for them, Deadpool was waiting on the other side with a battalion of confederate soldiers who unload on Cable’s team. The team fights back while making sure to not kill anyone as to not disrupt the time stream.
Deadpool manages to slip away once again but his impact on history has become all too visible as the union army now fights with giant mechanized machines and advances weaponry. Cable travels back to Cannonball and Boom Boom, and with no time to explain, tells them to fight against the rebel army to ensure they lose the Battle of Germantown just as history says. They are unsure about Cable’s demands but he has no time to explain and jumps back to 1863. Cable commands Domino and Warpath to hold the union back as long as possible while he deals with Deadpool.
Deadpool tries to get away but Cable gets a hold of him and follows him into the time stream. Just as it appears Cable is about to end it, Deadpool straps on a color that puts him in control of all Cable’s movement via hijacking his brainstem and nervous system.
Deadpool then proceeds to force Cable into firing on a group of passing soldiers. But Deadpool is unaware that Cable still has control of his telekinetic powers and he is able to force the bullets over the soldier’s heads, knowing that eventually Deadpool will reveal his plan due to his inability to quit talking. Meanwhile, Cable’s team is still fighting and they are beginning to grow weary.
Deadpool reveals to Cable that he has planned for the confederates to take over the most heavily fortified city on earth Peking. Cable now realizes that Deadpool wasn’t sent back to save Talbot’s grandson, he was sent back to make America a bloodthirsty superpower thus giving Talbot unlimited wealth and power via his war profiteering. Cable then breaks off the machine strapped to his neck and attacks Deadpool.
Deadpool and Cable fight it out and Cable “kills” Deadpool but now has a plan to fix the time stream. The rest of Cable’s team is on the end of their ropes and may not have much left in them. Cable tells them to hold on for a bit longer while he puts his plan into fruition.
Back in the 1600’s, Deadpool is very much alive and pays a visit to the empress of Peking where he has stashed a spare time machine. He then proceeds to travel to Germany 1923 and kidnaps Adolf Hitler, Deadpool hides out with Hitler stopping anyone from the future from finding him with a gun that not only eradicates its foes but travels back in time and stops the first moment of that person’s potential existence.
Cable goes and collects his team to bring them back to the present to enact his plan. When they arrive, they are greeted by Talbot and his advances sentinel robots. Cable orders his team to stand down knowing that there is no way they can fight them. Talbot informs Deadpool that Cable has arrived and Deadpool joins them with his time eradicating gun. Cable and his team decide to lash out in one last ditch effort to survive. His team is killed and Deadpool prepares to eradicate Cable from existence. Just as Deadpool fires his gun, Cable redirects the shot into Talbot thus erasing him from history and causing the entire story of Deadpool Vs, X-Force to have never happened. The story ends with Cable meeting Deadpool in issue #98 of New Mutants where Deadpool first appeared. But Deadpool is completely aware of them having met before due to his existential awareness.
Though the story may be confusing at times, it is a lot of fun and should be picked up by anyone that is a fan of Deadpool or wants a good introduction to his fun and quirky style
