Ok guys, so I just finished watching The Flash series’ pilot episode. This will have been my third time viewing it, I think… Anyway, this show is so damn fun!!! I can’t gush more about how FUN FUN FUN it is. The show isn’t set to air until the 7th of October, and I’m guessing all of you out there are wondering, “How the hell was Dante able to watch it so soon?” Well, if all of you geeky nerd types have been living under a rock or away from the internet, then you can’t really call yourself a geek now can you? About two or three months ago a copy was released online and I happened to download it. Being that I’m not the richest guy in the world and I lack the time and DVR tech to watch and read all the media that I am so involved in, I pirated the damn thing. Much like many of you may have. So now that that’s out of the way, on to the review.

There won’t be any spoilers in this review since it’ll be up before the show airs, so not to worry, I won’t be ruining anyone’s good time and viewing experience with that nonsense.

Let’s just start off with “FUN” one more time! I am so excited to see one of my favorite DC Comic characters finally get to be portrayed by a great young actor and produced in a way that just makes me smile and make my heart race. That’s what the powers of The Flash did to me when I watched this show.

The cast that was chosen for this show are some of the best new TV actors I’ve seen on the CW. Since Arrow being the great show that it is, it still has its problems. The acting can be a bit lackluster… let’s say in comparison to Marvel’s: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. However, The Flash has a fresh cast that really brings weight and emotion to it’s characters and the dire situations that drama that they face. For pilots episodes, I would have to Tupperware the shit out of it!

The family dynamic that Detective Joe West brings as Barry’s father figure is one of the best starting relationships I have ever seen in a pilot episode. Actor Jesse L. Martin plays a great role as that father figure to Barry, and in each scene you can really feel the love he has for this kid under his home and tutelage on the Central City Police Department. His daughter, Iris West (Candace Patton) is also a sort of sister figure, which can feel kinda weird since Barry has had a crush on her since he was taken in by the West’s after his mother was murdered and father placed in prison for said murder.

Barry Allen works as a forensics specialist assistant alongside the the Central City Police Department. His origin is pretty much the exact same scene, shot for shot, as the one that was shown on the Arrow series in episode nine titled, “Three Ghosts”. Barry Allen is struck by lightning that was caused by a particle accelerator’s test that ended up in a city wide explosion. Dr. Harrison Wells, played by actor Tom Cavanaugh, is the scientist that was funding the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator project. (Who later gets blamed for the failed experiment and has a very dirty and dark secret.)

The explosion literally changes him and the city as Barry Allen knows it, once a villain that was thought to have died reemerges to cause some havoc. Barry and Dr. Harrison’s crack (and young) science geek team help to take down this baddie, by running* (haha puns) tests on Barry and even providing him with a suit to withstand heat and wind resistance as he’s speeding through town.

There are more that enough easter eggs in the show also, but in NO WAY are they literally thrown at your face like the ones that were given to us in FOX’s Gotham. You will absolutely miss the subtle nods to many different heroes and villains if you aren’t paying close attention to the entire episode. I’m not gonna give any of them away either. Experience it for yourselves and enjoy to fun.

The Flash will be one of those shows that pays off on so many levels. Plus knowing that there will be many crossovers with Arrow and possibly with the new TNT Titans series, it makes me super ecstatic to be live right now to see this kind of television.

The Flash is a show that you SHOULD NOT MISS! It’s just fun! The show runners really knew what they were doing with this one guys! They made me care about the characters and the paths that they will face on this new journey. I can see this being a show that lasts and builds a great following, much like Arrow does and Smallville did in the past. It’s gonna be a great ride, so strap in and do your best to catch The Flash if you can spot him.
