Could B.J. Novak Be Molten Man In Amazing Spider-Man 2?

So we all know there are tons of Easter eggs throughout the new Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer that hit the internet on Dec. 5th. We all saw the mechanical Vulture wings and Doc Ock’s tentacles in what seems to be a secret wing of the Oscorp Building. But what you may have missed is an Easter egg alluding to another villain in the Spider-Man universe altogether.
In a quick flash on screen you see this man looking through a bunch of cylinders with what appears to be a yellowish liquid perhaps. But who is this man? More importantly, who is the actor?
We are almost certain that this is the actor B.J. Novak better known for his role as Ryan Howard on “The Office”. We also know that he’s starring in the Amazing Spider-Man 2 but is not credited with a character name. Recently he was asked by The Huffington Post if he was a secret role to which he said:
“No. I’m in a couple of scenes. Yeah, I was never told whether or not I could say. I can say that I work at Oscorp. And I am someone from the comic books, someone from the original. So, yeah, I’m somebody. I wouldn’t say I’m pivotal, but I’m not an extra, either.”
We here at Pop Culture Leftovers have our theories as to who he will be playing in the film. But maybe you need further proof. So what’s in those cylinders anyway? Now, I don’t know about you but I’ve seen Back to the Future about a hundred times since it was first released and although I’m not a nuclear physicist I have seen Doc put plutonium in the Delorean more times than not so I think that makes me an expert in the field. Need further proof?
There’s a scene where Harry is exposing something about Peter Parker and has a sheepish grin on his face like he’s caught Peter with his hand in the cookie jar. Harry is using a touch screen tabletop computer that has a ton of file folders that are all labeled. Now there are tons of Easter eggs on this screen but one in particular that I think needs to be addressed. I know it’s blurry but there’s a file labeled “Plutonium Lab“.
Could there be another mishap at Oscorp with the plutonium next? Could B.J. Novak be Mark Raxton from the Marvel universe better known as Molten Man? Only time will tell but I think it’s a solid guess.
In the comics Mark Raxton was a scientist who wanted to use his science intellect to become wealthy. He once worked at Oscorp Industries, Inc., as the laboratory assistant to Dr. Spencer Smythe. Raxton and Smythe both developed an experimental new liquid metallic alloy from a radioactive meteor, but Raxton attempted to steal it and sell it for his own gain. He and Smythe then had a fight in the laboratory causing Raxton to then spill the liquid alloy all over his body with his skin absorbing it and turning golden. Raxton fearing he would die ran to the closest hospital but discovered that the alloy had changed him and had given him unreal strength and power. His entire body was now made up of the metallic alloy and he was granted a high degree of resistance to physical injury. His skin can give off very intense amounts of heat and has looked like molten lava in certain instances in the comic. Not only can he burn you but he’s a great thief as well now. His metallic fingers can pick locks and he can make his skin so slick that he makes it nearly impossible to be restrained.
Now is B.J. Novak playing Mark Raxton A.K.A. Molten Man? Only time will tell. But this does go along with the news that Sony is planning to develop more of an expanded universe when it comes to the characters within the Spider-Man universe.
