The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent Movie Review by Brooke Daugherty

Is The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent a comedy? An action movie? A drama? A drug fueled dream? Yes. The trailers for Massive Talent make this Nic Cage led film seem to be your everyday action comedy, but it is so much more.
Director Tom Gormican co-wrote the film with Kevin Etten for Lionsgate. Apparently he always had it in mind for the main character to be an overly neurotic version of Nicolas Cage – except Cage turned down the part – twice. Luckily for us all, Gormican talked Cage into it. Once Pedro Pascal from Game of Thrones and Mandalorian fame joined the cast, the film was in the works.
It is no secret that Nic Cage has done some not-so-great movies, but he always gives it 100%. Massive Talent is no exception. In fact, we get some great references to Cage’s best and most infamous movies. Cage wasn’t the only great performance in this film, Pascal’s commitment to his character of Javi, Cage’s number one fan and a billionaire, was on par with Cage himself. We also get Tiffany Haddish and Ike Barinholtz, who both serve as comic relief and dramatic plot points.
Nic Cage’s deliciously frantic portrayal of a fictional version of himself is perfectly paired with Pascal’s Javi, this film becomes the perfect amalgam of EVERY Cage movie. Cage took this caricature of himself and ran with it. Unfortunately, not to the bank, but if you haven’t seen this film, I urge you to do so.
