“Point Blank” Review by Joe Stark

In order to rescue his kidnapped wife, a nurse, played by Anthony Mackie, is forced to free an injured
criminal, played by Frank Grillo from the hospital in which he works. Things quickly spiral out of control
as Mackie finds himself in the middle of a much bigger conflict than he could’ve imagined.
Point Blank is an action thriller available on Netflix. It was written by Fred Cavayé and Adam G. Simon
and directed by Joe Lynch. After a quick perusal through IMDB I was able to confirm that I am not
familiar with any of their prior work.
I had a good time with this movie. The action was great and fairly nonstop. You see the beats coming
from a mile away, but just like it says in the film, it doesn’t have to be perfect just believable. Mackie
and Grillo paired up well on the screen and I had fun with these familiar faces from the MCU working
together again; albeit in different roles.
The music in Point Blank was a high point for me. Opening with Black Flag is never a bad idea in my
book. The Whitesnake song at the end of the flick is a little too on the nose but made me ironically laugh
out loud. The majority of Point Blank is super-serious, but once into the third act we do get some much needed comic relief.
Overall, I was happy with this movie and would watch it again. Being a Netflix movie it’s extremely
accessible and a great way to beat the heat for 90 minutes on a hot summer day.
PCL Rating: High Taste It
Rotten Tomatoes Rating: FRESH 🍅
